WALL E

Pixar 2008

Go see this movie.

Whether you are a preschooler, teenager, childless singleton, grandmother - it matters not. Do yourself a favor and lose yourself in wonderment at the superb animation, engaging characters, stark message told in a gentle and hopeful manner, and the miracle of a full-length movie that arrests your interest for entire duration despite the almost total absence of dialogue (reminiscient in this respect of the phenomenal 'Quest for Fire'.)

Then please come back and tell Apprentice Writer what you thought!

I LOVED this movie! And for the first time, my youngest, who just turned 4, sat thru the entire thing without so much as a fidget.
Other movies, he lasts for about an hour before the switch-seat-switch-row game begins.

Amazing what they could do with the robots expressions as the only form of communication, considering they were working with lights for eyes, or only binocular thingies. And that cockroach -- adorable! Who knew?
If it were strictly Disney, you know that little bug would have talked, danced, and predicted the future...

I agree with M. -- GO SEE THIS MOVIE!

Yeah, I really liked it. Stayed with me for a while.

Loved the first third the best, taking place all alone on stark Earth. Really original storytelling. Not one wasted moment.

I resist the urge to mutter "Foreign Contaminant" as I clean house now, lol.

Great animation, too!

wylie - nicely observed about how they had the good sense to leave it at a single, semi-natural cockroach. i actually read him as a symbol for humanity - no matter how many times he got squished, he still found the energy to bounce back and go on.

abby - i agree there were no extraneous bits. everything was there for a reason. i had actually hoped for a bit more screen time for the mini-army of rogue, malfunctioning 'bots, though - they were very funny and endearing in their malfunctionitude.

*grin*, it does sound like a super-nifty movie! I hadn't heard of it (LOL, I must live under a rock -- well no, come to think of it, I climb them in the mountains :) ), but I'll definitely have to check it out!

Just saw your comment on the Book Binge and I hear you on Siddharta. I was very surprised but not by much. It IS on my top 10 books of all time list. : )

I keep hearing good things about it.

When I get a moment I'll have to take my kidlets.

Hmmm, I wonder if it's playing at the Drive In?

TL - I think that you might be especially pleased by the featured role of a modest little sapling.

Ana - I really must spend some time updating my 'read' list on the 'goodreads' site...

Amy - I love drive-ins! So many great childhood memories.. But they seem to be more or less extinct now.

I went with my son to see this as well. I thought it was really well done and excessively depressing. Don't get me wrong I loved it, and I loved the message. It really brought home the reality that we must start to more effectively address our waste issues and learn to love our earth!
